The Cornerhost Story

Hello there. My name is Michal Wallace. I started Cornerhost almost by accident in April of 2001. If you sign up for an account here, I'm the guy you'll be working with, so I thought it best to introduce myself. :)

I've been a part of the blogging community since the beginning. As the number of blogs increased, I found myself trying to keep track of way too many, and decided to build a tool to track them for me. That tool was called linkwatcher, and it was the first blog monitor and blog search engine on the net.

Linkwatcher quickly became quite popular, and as the number of users and monitored blogs increased, it soon outgrew the limits of my old hosting account. For a while, I borrowed spare bandwidth from friends, but I eventually decided Linkwatcher needed its own home. So I bought a server.

To help cover the costs, I came up with some low-priced web and email hosting plans that I could offer my friends. I even put up a little website.

I was having a lot of fun doing this in my spare time, and eventually I even managed to turn a few dollars profit. By then, I'd also learned enough about the hosting business to feel confident selling my plans to a wider market, and I decided to take things to the next level. I put together a business plan, incorporated the business, and by November, I quit my job to work full-time for Cornerhost.

Principles

I do my best to act out the principles in my personal mission statement, and I run my business by certain principles, too:
